ZERO
POINT

Come back to stillness.
Come back to balance.
Come back to centre.

A seven-day immersive journey into Zen, embodied presence and the art of remaining centred regardless of what is happening around you.

View the retreat brochure

What remains when nothing outside you is required to change?

We spend so much of life waiting for the outside world to become quiet before allowing ourselves to feel peaceful.

A relationship changes.
Work changes.
The future becomes uncertain.
Something we wanted does not happen.

And suddenly our inner world moves with it.

Zero Point asks a different question.

Can you remain connected to yourself while life continues to move?

零

Chapter I · What is Zero Point?

Zero Point is the quiet centre beneath reaction.

It is not emotional numbness.

It is not withdrawal from life.

It is not avoiding desire.

It is the ability to feel deeply without being completely governed by what happens outside you.

  • regulationrather thansuppression
  • presencerather thanhypervigilance
  • responserather thanreaction
  • balancerather thanpolarity
  • allowingrather thancontrolling
  • embodimentrather thanconstant mental analysis

The world can move without taking you with it.

Stillness is not the absence of life.
It is the place from which you meet it.

Chapter II · Why Kyoto?

A city that has been practising stillness for centuries.

In Kyoto, temples, gardens, tea, ritual, beauty, discipline, silence and modern life coexist. A raked garden is tended each morning. A bowl of tea is offered with complete attention. A thousand-year-old shrine sits a short walk from a contemporary city.

Kyoto itself becomes part of the retreat — a living environment that invites you to slow down, notice more and return to yourself.

Zen is an inspiration and an experiential influence here. Zero Point and Inner Union are Mani and Mariana’s contemporary spiritual teachings, not traditional Zen Buddhist practices. Japanese and Zen concepts are used respectfully as contemplative lenses, while formal Zen Buddhist and Japanese cultural teaching is entrusted to qualified local practitioners.

Chapter III · The Experience

Culture, ritual and sacred beauty.

Chapter IV · The Signature Journey

Seven days.
Seven lenses.
One centre.

Zero Point is not seven days of trying to become peaceful. It is seven days of discovering what remains when thought, emotion, desire, uncertainty and the outside world are allowed to move without automatically moving you with them.

  1. 01 · Ma

    The Space Between

    There is space.

Ma becomes the felt interval between event and reaction, slowing the pace enough for another response to become possible.

  2. 02 · Shoshin

    Before the Story

I meet reality before my story.

Explore beginner’s mind: experiencing a moment before interpretation, certainty and old narrative take over.

  3. 03 · Mushin

The Mind That Does Not Cling

Thought can move without controlling me.

Notice thought, sensation and impulse without allowing every internal movement to become instruction.

    Love Without Grasping

    I can love without gripping.

Explore the difference between loving something and demanding that reality obey you.

  2. 05 · Impermanence · Mono no Aware

The Beauty of What Cannot Be Held

    Everything moves.

Explore the quiet beauty of allowing something to matter without needing to make it permanent.

    The Awareness That Remains

    Awareness remains.

The test of Zero Point is not how peaceful you feel in Kyoto, but who you become when Kyoto is gone.

Chapter V · Signature Experiences

The experiences that give Zero Point its language.

The Threshold of Ma

Cross physically and symbolically from ordinary life into the retreat. Less explanation. More space.

The Empty Cup

Tea becomes a metaphor for receiving without gripping, forcing or demanding certainty.

The Trigger Laboratory

Practise the movement from trigger to body to story to impulse to conscious choice.

The Rope & The Bell

Hold what you are trying to control, then learn to loosen without rejecting it. Release is not rejection.

The Still Point

The defining Zero Point experience. Movement, sound and light gradually fall away until awareness remains, before gentle disturbance is reintroduced and centre is practised while the outer field changes.

The Last Bell

Close without dependency. Leave with a route back to centre rather than the belief that peace exists only inside the retreat.

Chapter VI · The Zero Point Method

一

Stabilise

Learn to recognise activation and return to the body.

二

Empty

Release excessive story, projection, control and the need to know everything.

三

Centre

Learn to remain present while life, emotion and relationships continue to move.

Not escaping life.
Learning how to remain centred within it.

Lantern-lit Kyoto lane at dusk

Ancient ritual. Modern life.
The same invitation to become present.

Chapter VII · A Day Inside Zero Point

A sample rhythm.

Dawn

meditation · breath · movement

Morning

breakfast · teaching · immersive practice

Afternoon

culture · temples · tea · rest · Kyoto

Evening

sound · ritual · reflection · stillness

Some days turn inward.
Some days take us into Kyoto.
Both are part of the retreat.

Chapter VIII · The Place You Will Return To

The aim is not to leave Japan permanently blissful.

It is to experience enough stillness that you begin recognising the path back to yourself once ordinary life resumes.

Kyoto · Japan · 1–7 April 2027

When the message does not arrive.

When plans change.

When someone disappoints you.

When uncertainty returns.

When life becomes loud again.

Zero Point becomes the place inside you that you know how to return to.

Chapter IX · The Stay

Private luxury villa · Kyoto

Practice · Meals · Rest · Tea · Silence

Zero Point is held inside an intimate private luxury villa: a quieter retreat world away from the pace of ordinary life, with space for practice, meals, rest, tea, silence and integration.

The villa is not intended to imitate a monastery. It becomes a beautifully held contemporary retreat home in which presence is easier to practise.
